According to Dietmar Hamann, Bastian Schweinsteiger will leave Bayern Munich as he has lost the midfield supremacy battle with Xabi Alonso.
The Former Germany international expects the midfielder to depart the Allianz Arena, as soon as the end of the season.
On Tuesday, Schweinsteiger had to watch the 6-1 demolition of FC Porto in the Champions League quarter-final second leg from the bench as boss Pep Guardiola decided he would prefer former Real Madrid man Xabi Alonso in the midfield.
Talking to Kicker, Hamman said: “The game against Porto was quite meaningful for two players in particular.”
“Schweinsteiger has apparently lost the battle for a place in midfield to Xabi Alonso. I do not think Schweinsteiger will still be playing for Bayern next year.”
Hamann also expressed his doubts in that Franck Ribery (who is currently out with an injury) could replace Thomas Muller in the starting XI.
“It will also be quite tricky for Ribery,” he added. “If you have to make a choice between Ribery and Muller once Robben returns, I would always pick Muller.”
Franck Ribery hasn’t featured for Bayern Munich since March 11th, in Bayern’s 7-0 win in the Champions League vs. Shakhtar Donetsk.
