Thomas Vermaelen finally looks set to make his Barcelona debut, after passing fit and receiving medical clearance.
Belgian defender Vermaelen moved to the Nou Camp in the summer from Arsenal, in a deal worth £15m. Unfortunately, the 29-year-old’s season has been impacted by injury, which has resulted in him being on the sidelines all season.
However, the Barcelona medical team have given Vermaelen the green light, meaning he can now return to action after surgery on his thigh problem.
The Barcelona club statement read:
‘Five months after injuring his right leg, FC Barcelona’s Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen has received medical clearance.
‘He underwent surgery back in December and will now be fully available for Luis Enrique in the home stretch of the season.
‘Vermaelen was given the medical all-clear following Sunday morning’s workout at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. The full squad trained, although Rafinha did so individually.’
