Arsenal have got themselves in a tussle with Inter Milan, with both clubs fighting for the signature of Monaco’s Geoffrey Kondogbia, according to Sky Italia.
The 22-year-old French international has emerged as one of the most highly rated youngster’s in Europe, after impressing with both his former club Sevilla, who he left for €20m in 2013, and his current club Monaco.
His contract at the Ligue 1 outfit still has two years remaining, but according to Sky Italia, Monaco are interested in the idea of selling their defensive midfielder, if the price is right.
This has prompted interest from both Arsenal and Inter Milan, who are now ready to fight for Kondogbia’s signature.
Despite Francis Coquelin’s very good season since being recalled from his loan spell at Charlton, Arsene Wenger is still seeking options to strengthen his midfield area, with Kondogbia being the perfect fit for the Frenchman.
In the UEFA Champions League last 16, Monaco knocked Arsenal out of the competition, with Kondogbia playing a big part in both legs. The 1st leg saw the Frenchman net at the Emirates, and then steadying the Monaco midfield in the 2nd to keep the Gunners at bay
If Kondogbia opts to join Inter, Arsenal have their eye on another target – Morgan Schneiderlin.
Finally, full-back Nacho Monreal has denied any interest in leaving Arsenal, and has urged the club to start new contract talks.
“I am very lucky to play for Arsenal, and am very happy to play for Arsenal. If the boss wants me to stay, I will – and I’d like to extend my contract.”
