According to Spanish media outlet AS, Real Madrid have made an enquiry about the availability of AS Monaco midfielder, Geoffrey Kondogbia.
Los Blancos are looking for a midfielder to bolster their physical presence ready for next season, with one candidate being Ligue 1 star, Kondogbia.
It is being suggested that the Monaco man is Rafael Benitez’s preferred choice to reinforce the strength in the middle of the Bernabeu pitch.
AS are reporting that the La Liga giants have already been in contact with Kondogbia’s representatives, with Monaco also aware of Madrid’s interest.
However, the interest from Real isn’t new. When Kondogbia was at Sevilla two seasons ago, Madrid expressed interest then. In fact, he was on the verge of signing at the Bernabeu, although ended up at his current club, Monaco.
The Ligue 1 outfit paid his €20m buyout clause, handing him a five-year-deal (until 2018) at the same time. So, acknowleding defeat in the race for Kondogbia, Madrid went on to sign Asier Illarramendi for €38m.
AC Milan have also expressed interest in Kondogbia, which could be a stumbling block in Madrid’s push. AS are also reporting that Milan’s CEO, Adriano Galliani travelled to Monte Carlo to try and speed up a deal.
