Last season, Neymar showed that he isn’t just part of the Barcelona team to assist Lionel Messi.
Throughout the campaign, the Brazilian international scored some key goals, and grabbed some vital assists when his team needed him. This has been acknowledged by the Barcelona hierarchy, who are set to offer the former Santos man a contract extension at the Nou Camp.
According to SPORT, Both Neymar and Barcelona’s former president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, have agreed on the contract renewal. However, with the board resigning ahead of the June presidential elections, the official announcement of the contract extension for the forward has been delayed until after the Copa America.
Upon his return from the Copa America, Barcelona’s future board will put their approval on the deal which is expected to keep the Brazilian national team captain with the Catalans until June, 2020.
Since the end of the 2014 calender year, Barcelona and Neymar’s representitve have been in on and off negotiations. Talks furthered when the player’s father arrived to discuss more personal financial terms.
The new deal will see the 23-year-old’s original contract be extended by two years. The extension will also boost Neymar’s annual salary to a valued €12 million per season.
