According to Cadena COPE, Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez has ruled out Nicolas Otamendi as a replacement for Sergio Ramos, who is potentially heading for the exit door at the Bernabeu.
The Spanish media outlet’s programme El Partido de las 12, the newly appointed Madrid manager is unwilling to sign the Valencia defender, despite Ramos potentially swapping La Liga football for the chance to play at Manchester United.
A few weeks ago, widespread reports were linking Manchester United with Otamendi. However, the Red Devils were then linked with Spanish defender Ramos, with it being reported he wants an exit from Los Blancos.
However, in an interview, Ramos has said he isn’t in negotiations with any club. Also, Otamendi and his agent have made it clear that an exit from the Mestalla this summer is a likely option.
Now that Argentina are no longer involved in the Copa America, transfer discussions for Otamendi are now likely to be sped up. However, these discussions will no longer be with Real Madrid, who have reportedly ended their interest in the 27-year-old.
Eugenio Lopez, Otamendi’s agent, has also confirmed recently that his client is no longer in talks with Real Madrid.
“Before Sergio Ramos leaves Real Madrid — if he does leave — Otamendi will be already playing for another club.”
