Ligue 1 side Lyon have rejected Barcelona’s €25m for central-defender Samuel Umtiti, who has also been linked with Premier League side Chelsea, according to L’Equipe – quoted by Get Football News France.
The report goes on to add that Barcelona were confident that the bid submitted to the French club was one they would have struggled to turn it down, but it came back to haunt them.
Lyon’s president, Jean Michel Aulas, is keen to use the fact that Umtiti is now involved in the France national team to boost the valuation price of the defender.
Despite what the Spanish media have been reporting, Umtiti hasn’t entered talks with Barcelona regarding personal terms.
It had been suggested that the 22-year-old had agreed a five-year-deal at the Nou Camp, with the transfer fee at £25m.
Talks are still ongoing between the two clubs regarding the Frenchman, but a deal is still to be agreed amongst the two parties, with Antonio Conte’s Chelsea waiting in the wings to swoop should the Catalans be unable to strike a deal with Lyon.
